Our missions

Défis Humanitaires is a journal of analysis and dialogue dedicated to understanding contemporary crises and shedding light on humanitarian action. Our missions reflect our commitment.

Understanding to inform, but above all, to act more effectively. At the heart of Défis Humanitaires’ missions is, first and foremost, the promotion of humanitarian action by analyzing the major challenges we face. Through our articles, analyses, and interviews, the journal seeks to make complex realities “accessible” and to shed light on today’s crises beyond the immediate news cycle: conflicts, population displacement, climate change, and development—issues that are all the more important in a rapidly changing world.

Promoting humanitarian action from a new perspective. Humanitarian work is not on the sidelines of the major geopolitical events that shape the world; it is both a witness to and a participant in them. Humanitarian aid now plays a key role in international relations and in the global political landscape. One of our missions is therefore to highlight the role of humanitarian aid and what it reveals about our current political landscape. For indeed, behind conflicts, political decisions, and international power dynamics, there are always tangible consequences for people. Thus, understanding geopolitics also means understanding its impact on human lives.

Creating a space for dialogue among actors from diverse backgrounds. Understanding the world also means paying attention to those who shape it. *Défis Humanitaires* provides a platform for individuals from various backgrounds—whether or not they are directly involved in contemporary political, geopolitical, and humanitarian events—to share their perspectives: humanitarian leaders, diplomats, researchers, journalists, civil society actors, policymakers, and on-the-ground witnesses. By bringing these perspectives together, the journal creates a space for the exchange of experiences and ideas—a space dedicated to information, inquiry, and the emergence of new perspectives on future challenges.
